A delegation from UNRWA’s Information Technology Service Centre (ITSC) visited the University of Palestine in November. The delegation included the Head of the IT Service Centre, Mr. Hani Kurdiya, and the Software Factory Team Leader, Mr. Mohammad Sobeh. The delegation was received by Dr. Mahmoud al-Ajrami, Acting President of the University of Palestine and Vice President of the Board of Directors. Dr. Fatma AlRubaie, Dean of the Faculty of Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, Mr. Azmy Al-Sakka, Head of the Faculty’s Software Engineering Department, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Shaqaqi, Director of Public Relations, also participated in the reception.
Dr. al-Ajrami welcomed the delegation and expressed his gratitude for the IT Service Centre’s assistance to Palestinian refugees. He stated that the university was ready to explore all avenues of cooperation between its relevant colleges and ITSC, to develop student’s skills in the Faculty of Engineering so that they are ready for the current job market.
Dr. al-Ajrami indicated that all efforts to skill and upskill IT students contribute to overcoming the high level of unemployment for IT graduates, which goes in line with the mission of the IT Service Centre. Thus, the university is eager to collaborate with both public and private organizations to connect undergraduates and graduates with the demands of the market in all disciplines.
In turn, Mr. Kurdiya thanked the university for the good reception, expressing the Centre’s readiness to develop the relationship with the university on several levels, in order to achieve an integrated system in the field of information technology by connecting education institutions, digital incubators, private companies, and public institutions.
UNRWA’s current policy is digital transformation through an integrated strategy and the complete automation of operations to connect refugees with the services offered by UNRWA. In addition to the digital transformation strategy, UNRWA seeks to foster collaboration with universities and colleges in Palestine to better equip the new generation with the right tech skills needed in this digital era.
