On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, a Japanese delegation visited the UNRWA IT Service Centre (ITSC). The delegation included: Ms. Toshiko Abe, a Member of the Parliament of Japan, and Mr. Toichi Nakashima, Ambassador for Palestinian Affairs, Representative of Japan to Palestine. Mr. Hani Kurdiya, Head of the IT Service Centre, and Ms. Hala Shaheen, IMTD Communications Consultant, received and welcomed the delegation.
Ms. Abe and Mr. Nakashima were given a tour of the IT Service Centre, where they had the chance to speak with several young IT professionals working in different IT fields. The Japanese delegation were interested in hearing about the different projects that our young IT professionals are working on. The delegation was also very keen to learn about the IT Service Centre’s digital transformation and how it’s impacting Palestine Refugees.
Following the tour, a meeting was held where Ms. Shaheen gave a presentation about the IT Service Centre, its objective, services offered, growth over the years, and current partnerships, concluding with ITSC plans for the next couple of years.
During the presentation, Ms. Abe talked about the connections she has with some Japanese companies in the IT industry that she would be happy to introduce to us, which Mr. Kurdiya appreciated a lot. Japan is known for its advanced technologies in various industries, including IT and software development. A collaboration with UNRWA ITSC would help support young talented IT professionals in finding work opportunities in a job market that has a high demand for skilled workers in the tech industry.
