On Tuesday, November 29, 2022, a delegation of representatives from different offices to the State of Palestine visited UNRWA Information Technology Service Centre (ITSC), renovated recently. The delegation included: Mr. Pedro Blanco Pérez, Head of the Representative Office of Mexico; Mr. Martin Ernesto Lafforgue, Representative of the Argentine Republic to the State of Palestine; and Mr. Christian Hodges-Nugent, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile.
Ms. Reem M. Akkila, IT Service Centre Partnership Coordinator, and Mr. Mohammed Sobeh, Lead of ITSC Software Factory, welcomed the delegation. The ambassadors were taken on a tour, during which they met several IT professionals and heard their inspiring stories. The ambassadors were impressed by our professionals’ success stories. They applauded their fortitude and resilience to create promising careers that can sustain them and their families through the IT sector.
After the tour, a meeting was held with the ambassadors where Ms. Akkila presented information about ITSC, its objective, services offered, growth, and current partnerships, concluding with ITSC aspirations over the next couple of years. Mr. Sobeh talked about ITSC’s efforts to establish a techno hub that embraces a much larger number of IT professionals, as the current space cannot accommodate all IT staff at the same time. The innovative techno hub will provide a supportive and dynamic community where IT professionals and graduates can come together and broaden their experience.
At the end of the visit, ambassadors expressed their interest in receiving the material related to ITSC and its aspirations for the next few years, including videos for success stories for Palestine refugees at the UNRWA ITSC and plans for future projects.
It is worth mentioning that UNRWA ITSC’s services have a positive impact not only on IT professionals but also on their families, which was depicted through the many stories shared with the ambassadors. UNRWA ITSC strives to create sustainable livelihoods that encourage decision-making participation, emphasize the quality and creativity of work, and promote positive, mutually beneficial relationships between people and their environment. Through the digital borderless sector, UNRWA ITSC is on a mission to change lives.
