On 21 March 2023, a delegation from the Basque Country visited the IT Service Centre, as a part of a week-long visit to Jordan and Palestine to explore areas of collaboration with UNRWA and assess the status of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at UNRWA Vocational Training Centers (VTCs).
The Basque delegation consisted of prominent officials, including Mr. Jorge Arevalo, the Deputy Minister of Education responsible for the Vocational and Training Program, Nicolás Sagarzazu, the Director of Planning and Organization of the Vocational and Training Program, Miguel Ángel Gallego, the General Director of the Basque Institute for Future Learning in Vocational Training, Paul Ortega, the General Director of the Basque Country Agency for Development Cooperation, and Alazne Camiña, the Head of the Basque Country Agency for Development Cooperation.
During the visit, the Head of the IT Service Centre, Mr. Hani Kurdiya, and IMTD Communications Consultant, Ms. Hala Shaheen, warmly received the visitors and took them on a tour of the IT Service Centre.
The visitors were impressed by the TVET professionals working at ITSC and the careers they have created for themselves after graduating from the Gaza Training College (GTC) and Khan Younis Training College (KYTC).
The tour ended with a meeting where Ms. Shaheen delivered a brief presentation on the ITSC’s objectives, services, growth, and current partnerships, along with inspiring success stories.
The visit was an opportunity for the Basque delegation to assess the status of TVET at UNRWA VTCs and explore areas of collaboration with UNRWA. It also provided an opportunity for the delegation to learn about the ITSC and its services, which could lead to potential collaboration between the Basque Country and UNRWA.
