On International Women’s Day, 8 March 2023, IT Service Centre had the honor of hosting Mr. Thomas White, Director of UNRWA Affairs in Gaza, and his esteemed colleagues from Gaza Field Office (GFO). Head of the IT Service Centre, Mr. Hani Kurdiya, and IT Service Centre Partnership Coordinator, Ms. Reem M. Akkila, along with IMTD Communications Aide, Ms. Hala Shaheen, warmly received the visitors and took them on a tour of ITSC, where they listened to our females who are working in various IT fields.
The ITSC tour was a part of an event organized by the Protection and Neutrality Office (PNO) and the Gender Working Group in GFO to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. The event’s aim was to raise awareness for women’s equality, call for positive change in advancing women’s rights, and lobby for accelerated gender parity. The whole event, including the tour, was broadcast live to attendees at UNRWA’s Gaza Training College (GTC).
This year’s theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” highlights the crucial role that innovation and technology play in achieving gender equality. It is a theme that the IT Service Centre embodies exceptionally.
Since its launch, the IT Service Centre has been on a mission to promote gender diversity and inclusion within its organization, with female representation standing at around 40% now.
Mr. White praised the significant and tangible development made by our young female IT professionals, especially the new graduates who graduated from GTC, received training at the IT Service Centre and are currently working in the Department of Information Management and Technology.
After the tour ended, Mr. White went back to join the rest of the attendees, where they continued with other activities planned for the day. Then, Mr. White accompanied by other attendees visited females’ booths where they market their products and services.
Mr. White was also impressed by the efforts of women entrepreneurs who market their products and services through the Internet in this digital era. He called for more innovation and development for a better future for women and for the entire refugee community.
We value Mr. White’s commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusion in the workplace.
After the tour, ITSC celebrated Women’s Day with our female colleagues who inspire us every day with their dedication, hard work, and achievements.
Let’s celebrate women’s achievements every day and work towards a future where gender equality is a reality.
